Neighborhoods with Access to the Boise Trails

Along the north side of the Treasure Valley lies one of Boise’s biggest gems – the Boise foothills trail system. There are hundreds of miles of trails for mountain biking, running, walking, taking your dog on a walk, horse back riding, and for peace and beauty. These trails all link together and, if you’re up for a real adventure, you can even take trails from Boise up to Bogus Basin Ski Resort and back again.

If you are an avid user of trails, you don’t want a 30 minute drive to get to them after work, you want them right out your back door! There are several neighborhoods nestled in the Boise foothills where you will be able to get to those trails without having to get into your car.

This interactive trail map from the MTB Project (https://www.mtbproject.com/directory/8008076/boise-eagle-meridian) will show you everything you need to know about the Boise Trails, and keep reading (or watch the video!) to learn about which neighborhoods will give you direct access.

All the trails are in the Boise foothills, and there is also the fantastic greenbelt trail that runs over 25 miles along the Boise River. So in general, if you want be close to the trails, you’ll want to live on the North side of the Boise River.

But to get access out your back door, you’ll need to live in one of these communities:

In NW Boise/East Eagle, Avimor, Dry Creek Ranch, areas by the Eagle Bike Park, Hidden Springs,  Cartwright Ranch, and communities all up against the foothills running east/west from downtown Boise are all communities that give you that direct trail access.  They are a mix of neighborhoods that range from master planned communities with pools, parks, gyms, and community centers, to older homes on acre lots, to smaller subdivisions. These homes will cost you anywhere from $500K- $3mil + for hilltop estates in 2021.

Avimor has the most access to trails…over 30!. (If you want to tour a home in Avimor, click here!) The Eagle Bike Park offers numerous trails, a flow track, BMX track, RC track for your cars, downhill track, a pump track, paved walking path, basketball court, skate park, and roller hockey. And the Hidden Springs/Cartwright Ranch area has easy access to downtown Boise with a backroad that drops right into downtown.

If you want to have Boise foothill trail access AND be within minutes of downtown Boise, then these communities will be for you: Collister area, North Boise, and Downtown Boise are all surrounded by trail access. The Collister area does not have any master planned communities, just a few smaller subdivisions, but mostly older homes and very little new construction. With old growth tree-lined streets, close access to the river, the foothills, and downtown, it is highly sought after. The North Boise/Downtown area consists of all kinds of housing – early 1900s cottages, historic mansions, apartments, condos, hilltop estates…but no large subdivisions and very little new home construction. You can expect to pay anywhere from $400k to over two million buckaroos if you want that foothill hilltop estate.

East of downtown Boise, between the Boise river and the foothills, you’ll find a  mix of master planned communities like Harris Ranch, to older hilltop neighborhoods like the Boise Highlands, to smaller, older cottages. This area does not have as many Boise foothill trail access points as the NW Boise/Downtown Boise areas, but the trails that are there hook up to the downtown trails…and it has easy access to the beautiful greenbelt trail if you like a paved pathway by the river. You will pay anywhere from $400k- two million dollars in this area as well.

There are many wonderful places to live in the Boise area, but being able to access those Boise trails easily is essential for some people (including my family!) And I love seeing the beauty of the foothills every day, feeling like I live in open space, but being minutes from the city.

If you would like me to find you a home close to the trails, I’m happy to help! If you have a home to sell, well that’s great too!

Now get outside and enjoy your day!

Always feel free to reach out to me with any questions you have about living in the Boise area! I’m here to help.
